Junior Collaborative Games Development

Basic wireframe of email system used for Narrative and Upgrade mechanic

Collab was my second Module in which I worked in a group of 28 student from different facets of games creation.

We were tasked with making a game of our own choosing, I was in the design team and took the role of a Technical/Gameplay Designer for our team.

We decided to create a package sorting game called Boxed Up. This required the player to detect discrepancies on a package in a warehouse to decide whether they were acceptable for shipping whilst also not letting the monsters hidden inside some of these packages get in the way of the player.

As a designer it was my job to think of gameplay features to expand upon the core gameplay loop and to experiment and prototype these mechanics to then later present to my Design Lead.

A lot of my work involved creating diagrams and flowcharts before creating relevant documentation for mechanics that we decided to implement. Additional features were also assigned to me to prototype before handing them off to the tech team.

Collab was a great module. I really enjoyed working with my group to create Boxed Up. Working in a group was very fun and interesting as a lot of the work up until this point has been individual which puts all the pressure of development on to just me, whereas in Collab, everyone was able to focus on their strengths.
